Our research supports safe, secure and reliable 5G mobile networking through: 
 
Security architecture 
A zero trust, distributed security architecture for 5G to protect against supply chain attacks and rogue devices and defend resource-constrained endpoints. 
 
Real-time, distributed defense 
Programmable network elements and virtualized network functions provide layers of protection to mitigate access disruptions and denial of service attacks—delivering real-time response and restoration against other network attacks and failures. 
 
Reliable communications in threatened environments 
An intelligent decision agent automates data-routing among diverse radio frequency (RF) and networking technologies, including 5G. We’re building a solution that provides efficient, agile RF communications for continuity of operations in rapidly changing and threatened tactical environments. 
 
Secure tactical communications 
Secure, cost-effective information sharing for U.S. and coalition warfighters leveraging 5G and satellite infrastructure to provide data-oriented security and loss resilience in challenging tactical environments. We're maturing and demonstating our solution, called VeriNet, for Verifiably Secure NDN (Named Data Networking)-based Coalition Networks, which delivers secure, robust tactical comms over diverse infrastructure, including untrusted infrastructure.
 
Machine learning (ML) 
We’re leaders in ML applications for 5G including RF signal detection, classification and processing, as well as novel techniques that identify adversarial ML attacks and protect against them. 
 
High-speed airborne communications  
Our Velocite™ solution leverages commercial cellular infrastructure to reliably deliver high-bandwidth data communications for aeronautical mobile telemetry at speeds of 1,000 kph and above. 
 
Spectrum sharing and efficiency 
Pioneering RF spectrum management systems support efficient use of spectrum and enable spectrum sharing to improve situational awareness with rigorous, validated metrics and in-depth analytics. 
 
Standards and emergency communications 
Collaborating to develop 5G standards through the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) and other standards groups, including ATIS, IETF, IEEE and Wi-Fi Alliance, as successful leaders with 25+ years of standards development expertise in emergency communications and national security and emergency preparedness. ​
