Our research in mobile networking is focused on highly dynamic, infrastructure-based and infrastructure-less environments. From infrastructure-based mobile networks to battlefields and remote or undeveloped locations where gaps in coverage can be filled with dynamically created mobile ad hoc networks, our researchers and engineers provide advanced solutions to support seamless and secure mobility—keeping networks running and communications flowing reliably, efficiently and securely.

Our workNetwork universal persistence
We are developing and demonstrating a novel mobile networking solution. Our solution takes advantage of a highly protected low-bandwidth control plane radio to maintain application transfers to overcome negative effects of burst data radio links in a contested and congested environment. This technology uses a highly resilient control channel to avoid radio link re-establishment and maintains network reliability through periods of frequent signal degradation. Automated PACE (primary, alternate, contingency and emergency) for resilient communications Our researchers have created an efficient, agile and modular RF communications capability to enable successful mission execution in congested and contested environments. Leveraging machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI), our solution delivers network awareness to automatically optimize network configuration and data routing among available tactical radio networks--saving time and providing resilient communications under dynamic conditions. Leveraging 5G and satellites for tactical military applications We’ve developed and demonstrated a robust networking communications solution which enables secure sharing of data at varying security levels over commercial 5G and satellite infrastructure. Our VeriNet technology, Verifiably Secure NDN (Named Data Networking)-based Coalition Networks, uses double encryption to protect information and provides proven robustness under network congestion, service interruptions and outages--even when operating over untrusted networks. Integrated network planning prototype We are implementing a Unified Network Operations (UNO) Planner for the Army. The UNO Planner improves tactical network operations capability by reducing time, training and complexity, integrating different planning and provisioning tools, and providing fast, easy support for new and modified radio product types in the Army’s Integrated Tactical Network. Command post wireless We developed a rapid deployment technology that significantly accelerates the provisioning of CSfC and multicast capabilities for laptops and IT infrastructure in mobile command posts over commercial wireless networks, while simultaneously ensuring accurate configuration and reducing costly errors. CSfC trusted integrator / SecureIO™ We are an NSA-recognized trusted integrator for the Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC) program. Our proven experience on CSfC requirements and procedures can help agencies safely and quickly take advantage of wireless solutions in classified environments. Through our SecureIO product line, we offer industry-leading products to support CSfC implementations including our Rapid Deployer for fast, accurate provisioning of CSfC end user devices and our SecureIO suite, which provides a common, approved TLS layer for use by diverse COTS and GOTS applications over handheld Android devices. Velocite™, for high-speed airborne communications over LTE / 5G Our Velocite product is a first-of-its-kind technology that delivers spectrum-efficient, sophisticated aeronautical communications applications over commercial mobile infrastructure--including 4G and 5G LTE. Via our patented Doppler compensation appliqué, Velocite transmits real-time data to and from aircraft at speeds above Mach 1 for test, training and operations.
