Josephine Micallef, Ph.D.

Senior Research Director,
​Systems and Cybersecurity
Dr. Josephine Micallef is a senior research director of the systems and cybersecurity research department at Peraton Labs. She is responsible for leading research initiatives on computing and networking platforms, technology, methodologies, and tools to support the construction and validation of large, complex, software-intensive distributed systems to ensure highly dependable operation, even under cyberattack.  

Previously, as a research manager at Telcordia Applied Research, Micallef worked closely with Telcordia business units to incorporate software research innovations into Telcordia products and services. Examples include developing a model-driven approach for rapid introduction and management of new communications services, tools and methodology for automating the generation of service-oriented interfaces, and workflow technology for automating communications service provisioning.

Micallef has made significant contributions to leading edge research in computer network defense and continues to direct innovative programs and projects aimed at efficiently and effectively securing mission-critical communications infrastructure for government and commercial clients. 
Micallef received her doctorate in computer science from Columbia University, where she was selected for graduate fellowships from IBM and the American Association of University Women (AAUW). She is a published author and holds four patents. Micallef received the YWCA’s Tribute to Women and Industry (TWIN) Award in 2000 and was elected a Telcordia Fellow in 2007.
