Ritu Chadha, Ph.D., senior research director of machine learning and data analytics research at Peraton Labs, has been awarded the 2021 IEEE MILCOM Lifetime Technical Achievement Award. She received the award last night at the conference banquet of the IEEE MILCOM conference, which is being held in San Diego on 29 November – 2 December this year.
Established by the Military Communications Conference (MILCOM) board in 1998, this signature career award is conferred annually by MILCOM and is the top achievement award presented at the leading conference on military communications. Specifically, the award is given to a person who has, over a long period of time, made many important technical contributions to military communications as evidenced by significant, high-quality, technical publications in the unclassified conference records of the IEEE Military Communications Conference. Chadha joins an illustrious list of award recipients, which includes military, industry, and academic awardees. She is the first woman to be awarded this honor.
Throughout her career, Chadha has published over 100 papers at conferences and in journals, including 49 papers at MILCOM. At Peraton Labs, she is responsible for basic and applied research programs in the areas of machine learning and artificial intelligence, with applications in a variety of domains, including cybersecurity, wireless networking, machine vision, text analytics, autonomy, and modeling and simulation. Chadha is a pioneer in the area of policy-based network management and its application to wireless and mobile ad hoc networks, and she published a book on the topic in 2007.
MILCOM is the premier international conference on military communications and provides a forum for researchers to share their findings related to the unique challenges in this space. The contributions from and collaborations across academia, industry, and government have been a hallmark of the conference since its inception.
